Ready to apply for the UNC Charlotte Online Business Administration program? Calculating your GPA is an important next step to the OnRamp to Charlotte Online! Here’s a simple guide to help you out:

  1. Gather your transcripts: Find all your college transcripts, including those from other institutions if applicable.
  2. Use the GPA Calculator: Head to the UNC Charlotte GPA Calculator
  3. Enter your courses: In the calculator, list each course you’ve taken, including:
    • Course name/number
    • Grade earned (A,B,C, etc.)
    • Credit hours for the course
  4. Calculate your GPA: The calculator will automatically do the math and show your overall GPA.
  5. Check progression course GPA: Remember, business applicants need a minimum 2.5 GPA in specific progression courses. These courses can be found in the courses needed page from Step 1.
  6. Ensure individual course grades: Each progression course requires a minimum grade of C with no more than two attempts.
  7. Meet the minimums? Great! If you have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and a 2.5 GPA in progression courses, you’re ready to move forward with your application and Step 3.

What IF…

Here are some specific scenarios with calculating GPAs.

Scenario 1 – You have two Bs and a C for three of the progression courses

Scenario 1 – You took ECO 252: Principles of Macroeconomics, ECO 251: Principles of Microeconomics, and MAT 263: Brief Calculus at Gaston College. You have two B’s and a C.

  • What is your GPA? Find the courses on your transcript and enter the grade and credit hours in the GPA Calculator. The first two courses are 3 credit hours but the calculus course is 4 credit hours. The calculator gives you quality points and calculates a GPA of 2.6.
  • Next step: You should finish the remaining progression courses at a community college partner school and apply to UNC Charlotte in your last semester.
Scenario 2 – You took Principles of Accounting I multiple times

Scenario 2 – You enrolled in ACC 120 at two different NC Community Colleges and have a D and and F on your transcripts. You transferred to a UNC Wilmington, took ACG 201 and made a B.

  • Next step: Since ACCT 2121 Principles of Accounting I, or the equivalent course, is a progression course, you may only have two attempts to be admitted to a business major at UNC Charlotte. Even though the UNCW grade is above the minimum, the attempt at UNCW counts as a third attempt and therefore you would not be admissible to a business major at UNC Charlotte, but would be considered for another major. You can finish the AA or AS at a community college partner or apply to UNC Charlotte now and select a non-business major. (See available online bachelor’s degrees.)
Scenario 3 – You have all the progression courses except for Statistics

Scenario 3 – You attended UNC Charlotte several years ago and were a pre-business major and finished all the progression courses except for Statistics.

  • Next step: Statistics is offered online at UNC Charlotte and as long as you have the other seven progression courses, you are ready to apply as a returning student at UNC Charlotte.
